Who we are

Who are the Sloths ESU?

The Sloths was established on July 8, 2021, within the Waltham Forest district. Beginning with a strong group of 11 enthusiastic members, the unit has rapidly grown into a strong unit of over 40 young people.

Unlike the younger Scout sections, Explorers is driven by our young members. Whether it's outdoor expeditions, community service, creative projects, or leadership challenges, the possibilities are endless. You choose your programme!

The leaders are here to make it possible and encourage you. Within our first year the unit has chose its name and planned some amazing activates and planned future adventures!

When and where do we meet?

The Sloths ESU meets fortnightly on Wednesday evenings. Our indoor meetings are held at the 14th Walthamstow Scout Group (205A Wood Street, Walthamstow, E17 3NU).

Indoor Meetings:

Session 1: 18:30 – 20:00
Session 2: 20:15 – 21:45

For outdoor meetings, the start time is typically 19:30, and the session runs until 21:30.

What does the uniform look like?

We have two types of uniforms. One formal for important presentations and any time the explorers are somewhere to represent the unit, and one informal a more relaxed casual attire for events and regular meetings.

Formal uniform

The formal uniform is the regular Explorer shirt along with our section scarf. Our section scarf is made up of 3 Key colours, royal blue, white and gold. These colours were specifically selected to pay tribute to our host group, The 14th Walthamstow, whose scarfs are royal blue with gold tips.

Casual uniform

The Casual uniform is an Grey polo shirt with the section logo. These were selected to allow the explorers to feel comfortable during outdoor meetings and events while still being recognisable that it the Sloths ESU.

Membership

When a member joins the section there is a £25 Joining fee. Monthly Fee are then charged at £13 per month. Payments can be made via Card or online using OSM.

What does the Term Fee cover?

What does the Joining Fee Cover?

– Section Scarf

– Casual Group Polo shirt.

– Initial Uniform Badges

This is payable via OSM. If you want to discuss hardship, please let a leader know.

Communication

A closed WhatsApp group is available containing Parents and Leaders. There's also a closed WhatsApp group used to communicate with the Explorers.

Email

Emails will be used to send out event information and invitations. It is important that we have an up to date email address listed. Your Explorer can add their own email too.

OSM

All personal details for Explorers are contained within the Online Scout Manager system, which is also used to generate emails, manage events and handle payments for subs, camps and activities.
